In fast-growing cities like Noida, the relationship between communities and street animals is becoming an increasingly important urban issue. While stray dogs are often seen only as a civic challenge, animal welfare groups believe that humane and structured management can create a safer and more balanced environment for both residents and animals.

In Noida, Avisha Association, a grassroots animal welfare initiative founded by Rachita Vishwakarma, has been quietly working on the ground to care for community dogs and promote responsible coexistence.

Working largely across sectors 75, 76, 77 and 50, the organisation focuses on rescue operations, medical treatment, feeding drives, vaccination efforts, and sterilization initiatives for street animals.

A Grassroots Effort for Animal Welfare

Founded in 2021, Avisha Association began as a small volunteer-led effort to help injured and abandoned animals living on the streets.

Over time, this work evolved into a more structured approach to community animal welfare. The team now regularly responds to emergency calls for injured dogs, arranges medical treatment and surgeries when required, and supports animals during recovery.

Much of this work happens directly on the streets and in residential areas where animals and people share the same everyday spaces.

Rescue and Medical Care

One of the most important aspects of Avisha Association’s work is helping animals in distress.

When residents report injured or sick dogs, volunteers coordinate with veterinarians and clinics to arrange treatment. This often includes transportation, medical care, surgeries, and recovery support.

Such rescue efforts help prevent prolonged suffering and ensure that animals in urgent need are not left without help.

Feeding Programs Across Local Neighborhoods

Regular feeding is another key part of the organisation’s work.

Across several sectors in Noida, volunteers provide food to street dogs so they do not suffer from hunger and malnutrition. For many of these animals, this becomes their most dependable source of nourishment.

Consistent feeding also helps maintain stable dog groups and can reduce aggression that sometimes arises from food insecurity.

Vaccination Drives for Community Safety

Avisha Association also conducts annual anti-rabies vaccination drives for the dogs it monitors and cares for.

According to the organisation, around 250 community dogs are vaccinated every year, helping protect both animals and residents from rabies and other diseases.

Vaccination remains one of the most important steps in building safer and more humane neighborhoods.

Achieving Sterilization in Local Areas

One of Avisha Association’s most significant achievements has been the successful sterilization of community dogs in its core working areas over the past several years.

Sterilization is widely recognised as the most humane and sustainable method of population management. By preventing uncontrolled breeding, it also helps reduce territorial behaviour and supports a more stable street dog population.

The organisation now hopes to expand this model to other parts of Noida, although scaling these efforts requires greater financial and logistical support.

Geo-Tagged Collars for Identification

To improve identification and monitoring, Avisha Association has introduced geo-tagged collars for several of the dogs under its care.

These collars help identify animals that have already been vaccinated and sterilized. They also support better tracking and help reassure residents that the dogs are being cared for responsibly.

Helping Animals Survive Noida’s Harsh Summers

Extreme summer temperatures in North India can be life-threatening for animals living on the streets.

To address this, Avisha Association runs a Summer Water Bowl Initiative, installing cemented water bowls across different parts of the city so that animals and birds can access drinking water during peak heat.

Every year, around 50 permanent water bowls are installed and regularly refilled through water tanker services to maintain a steady water supply.

A Vision for Humane Coexistence

For founder Rachita Vishwakarma, the mission goes beyond rescue alone.

Her vision is to create a model in which communities and street animals can coexist more peacefully through awareness, responsible care, and humane practices such as vaccination and sterilization.

Through steady on-ground work and community engagement, Avisha Association hopes to show that compassion and structured welfare efforts can make a meaningful difference to urban animal welfare.
