The wait is officially over for residents of the National Capital Region. Today, March 28, 2026, marks a historic milestone as Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrives in Gautam Buddha Nagar to formally inaugurate Phase 1 of the Noida International Airport in Jewar. Designed to be a game changer for connectivity, local commerce, and real estate, this mega greenfield project is set to transform the landscape of our region.
Here is everything you need to know about today’s inauguration, upcoming flight schedules, and how the massive infrastructure project will impact Noida and Greater Noida.
PM Modi Inauguration Schedule for Today
Security has been tightened across the region as the Prime Minister prepares to unveil the new aviation hub. According to official statements, PM Modi is scheduled to arrive at the airport site around 11:30 AM for a comprehensive walkthrough of the newly constructed terminal building. At exactly 12:00 noon, he will officially inaugurate the facility and address a large public gathering.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, along with several Union and state ministers, will also be in attendance to celebrate the launch of a project that has been in the works for years.
When Will Commercial Flights Start from Jewar?
While the inauguration takes place today, travelers will have to wait just a little longer to book their tickets. The airport recently received its aerodrome license from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation and security clearance from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security.
Commercial flight operations are expected to begin around May 2026. Industry experts note that there is typically a 45 to 60 day gap between receiving final regulatory clearances and the commencement of scheduled flights. Leading airlines including IndiGo, Akasa Air, and Air India Express have already signed on to operate from the new hub, with initial operations focusing heavily on domestic routes before expanding globally.
Crucial Traffic Advisory for Local Commuters
If you are traveling through Noida or Greater Noida today, be prepared for significant route changes. The Gautam Buddh Nagar Traffic Police has issued a comprehensive advisory effective from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM to ensure smooth movement for dignitaries and the public.
Heavy goods vehicles are restricted on the Noida to Greater Noida Expressway and the Yamuna Expressway. Commuters traveling from Greater Noida West are being diverted through Pari Chowk, while traffic from Noida utilizing the expressway will be routed through specific service roads and roundabouts near the Ranehra Police Post. Emergency vehicles will have uninterrupted access throughout the day.
Phase 1 Infrastructure and Regional Impact
Developed under a Public Private Partnership model with a massive investment of around Rs 11,200 crore, Phase 1 of the airport is an engineering marvel. The facility boasts a 3,900 meter long runway capable of handling wide body aircraft, alongside a state of the art passenger terminal designed to serve 12 million passengers annually.
For our local community, the economic ripple effect is already visible. Property values along the Yamuna Expressway and in Greater Noida are surging. Beyond real estate, the airport features a dedicated 40 acre Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul facility and a massive multi modal cargo hub. This logistics ecosystem is expected to generate thousands of jobs and provide a massive boost to local businesses, solidifying Gautam Buddha Nagar as a premier commercial destination in North India.
