Education is often viewed through the lens of infrastructure—grand buildings, smart boards, and manicured campuses. However, for over 11 years, one organization has been proving that the true essence of learning lies in the “Pehchaan” or identity it gives to a child. Pehchaan The Street School, a grassroots non-profit, has turned the traditional schooling model on its head with a simple philosophy: if children cannot reach classrooms, the classrooms must reach them.
From Five Children to a Movement
What started in 2015 as a humble initiative with just five children has blossomed into a powerful educational ecosystem. Today, the organization operates 10 active centers across the Delhi NCR region, including a significant presence in Noida. This journey, led by founder Akash Tandon, was born out of a desire to move beyond transient social work toward creating a permanent, systemic impact.
The Noida center serves as a beacon of this mission. Recently, the facility expanded its infrastructure to include new classrooms and dedicated computer learning facilities, ensuring that students from underprivileged backgrounds are not left behind in the digital age.

Impact by the Numbers
The scale of Pehchaan The Street School’s work is a testament to the power of community-driven change. Their volunteer-led model bypasses the need for expensive real estate, focusing resources directly on student welfare and holistic development.
- 10 Active Centers: Strategically located to serve the most vulnerable pockets of Delhi NCR.
- 1600+ Students: Currently enrolled in structured academic and life-skills programs.
- 1000+ Volunteers: A diverse force of professionals and students contributing across teaching and operations.
- 1 Lakh+ Items Distributed: Essential learning and hygiene materials provided to children in the past year.
- 50+ College Partnerships: Collaborations for internships across India that bridge the gap between social intent and professional growth.

Beyond the Textbooks: Holistic Empowerment
Pehchaan The Street School does not just teach math and science. The curriculum is deeply rooted in psychology-led learning modules and vocational training. By focusing on building confidence and dignity, the school helps children break the cycle of poverty.

Recent initiatives have highlighted this holistic approach. The #PehchaankiDiwali campaign brought joy to thousands, while collaborations with major organizations and media houses like Aaj Tak have provided students with unprecedented exposure to the world outside their immediate surroundings. These experiences are vital in fostering the belief that no dream is limited by one’s circumstances.
A Message from the Founder
Akash Tandon, the visionary behind the movement, emphasizes that education is a fundamental right that should transcend geography.
“Education is not defined by classrooms, boards, or infrastructure; it is defined by belief. At Pehchaan, we’ve seen that when a child feels seen, safe, and valued, learning naturally follows. Our mission is simple: to ensure that no dream is limited by circumstance.”
