Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) Greater Noida has launched a mobile cancer screening unit to provide early detection services for breast and cervical cancers in underserved areas of Gautam Budh Nagar and nearby districts.
The unit, donated by India Yamaha Motor Pvt Ltd under its corporate social responsibility programme, was unveiled on December 4, 2025. It equips the vehicle with an X-ray unit, mammography equipment, colposcopy setup, laboratory testing facilities, and patient examination spaces. GIMS Director Dr (Brig) Rakesh Gupta stated that the unit boosts the institute’s capacity to extend cancer screening beyond its campus. Yamaha Corporate Director Atsushi Nagashima noted it aims to bridge gaps in preventive healthcare access.
The mobile unit targets high-need areas where diagnostic services are limited, focusing on early diagnosis of breast and cervical cancers, which are common among Indian women. Officials indicate it will soon begin outreach visits in the district. This aligns with GIMS’s recent expansions, including free cataract treatment and Yellow Fever vaccination services launched in November 2025.
The GIMS Mobile Health Unit, operated by the autonomous medical institute under the Uttar Pradesh government, is positioned to significantly improve community healthcare access in Gautam Budh Nagar. Recruitment efforts for the project confirm that the unit is being actively developed, even though specific visit schedules for Noida sectors have not yet been outlined. By bringing preventive and primary care services closer to residents, the unit reduces the need for travel to the main hospital and supports earlier interventions, ultimately contributing to better health outcomes for the community.
